Ékszerek Éjszakája Budapest (Art Jewellery Night of Budapest) - Former Students Organise a Charity Auction with the Support of FISE
CROWN / JEWELLERY
Auction for children
Event dates: 11-16 May 2020.
The crisis situation caused by the coronavirus has a direct or indirect impact on society as a whole. Many people have got into vulnerable situation from which they cannot find the way out on their own. However, it is heart-warming to see such a large number of professional collaborations around the world, which the organisers of the Art Jewellery Night of Budapest want to follow as well. As a continuation of a successful Italian initiative, ‘Crown Jewels Funding Italy’, an online auction titled ‘CROWN / JEWELRY - Auction for Children’ will be organised, where unique works of art donated by contemporary Hungarian jewellery designers will be offered for auction. The event aims to help the lives of children who have been made even more vulnerable by the coronavirus. The organisers intend to use the proceeds to support three children’s charities or associations that can target food or educational materials to those in need.
The auction process is based on the Italian model mentioned above and the Portuguese-Spanish model that followed. The organisers will share the jewellery offered by the invited artists (with pictures and a starting bid) on the organisers’ Facebook group page created especially for this event, and bidders can add their bids in a comment under the post. The auction will be won by the highest bidder by the end of the auction at midnight on 15 May 2020. Event dates: 11-16 May 2020. The organisers will run the auction entirely on a charitable basis, so 100% of the proceeds will go to the charities supported. The organising team of the Art Jewellery Night of Budapest hopes that their fundraising initiative will be a success and a great reward for all the work put in. International experience has shown that the generous contributions of the artists have resulted in a very exciting auction, raising substantial funds for the organisations they have chosen to support. The organisers are very confident that Hungarian artists will support the cause and contribute their unique jewellery to the auction.
About the Art Jewellery Night of Budapest: The AJNB is an annual series of events aimed at promoting Hungarian and international contemporary jewellery in Hungary. The official backing organisation of the event is FISE, the Studio of Young Designers Association, which has been supporting the work and professional development of Hungarian designers for more than 30 years. Looking back over the past five years, the Art Jewellery Night of Budapest has seen a strong upward trend in attendance and awareness, both among professionals and visitors, so the organisers believe that their efforts can reach a wide range of people.
The three eligible foundations/partnerships
The ‘Window onto the Bench’ campaign was launched by the joint programme team of the Civil College Foundation (CKA) and Esély Labor (Chance Lab Association), Chain Reaction, in partnership with the LáthatatlanTanoda (Invisible Study Hall) and the aHang (TheSound) platform. The aim is to provide digital tools through study halls and community organisations to disadvantaged children who are excluded from education due to lack of computers and internet access. Window onto the Bench is collecting laptops, tablets and donations to buy digital devices. https://www.ablakapadra.com/
The multifaceted activities of the Igazgyöngy Foundation are primarily aimed at children and young people living on the periphery. Their long-term mission is to create opportunities, to catch up, to educate for independence. Thanks to their diligent work, they have achieved outstanding success in the development of disadvantaged children, arts education and improving the living conditions of families in extreme poverty. https://igazgyongyalapitvany.hu/en/about-us/
The ‘One more bite’ fundraising campaign was launched by the Civil College Foundation, the Chance Lab Association and the aHang campaign platform to help people living in slums. Food and cleaning products bought with the money raised will be distributed to 12 municipalities through local community organisations, which will also be a huge help for families with children, as the closure of schools means that disadvantaged children will only have access to one free bowl of food a day. https://ahang.hu/megegyfalat/
The auction process is based on the Italian model and the Portuguese-Spanish model based on it.

More than 70 works have already been donated (both Hungarian and international). We are very hopeful that each piece of jewellery will find a new owner and that they will be able to use the proceeds to give meaningful support to the three collaborations.
