The Committee’s closed evaluation session. After a successful outcome, the event will continue with a habilitation lecture:

12:15 to 13:15: Kortárs fotó/művészeti pozíciók magyarországi magángyűjteményekben (Contemporary photography/art positions in private collections in Hungary) (including a Case study and summary in English)

The German artist John Bock’s work reproduced here was acquired by László Gerő and included in his private collection in Budapest following the 2010 exhibition at the Temporäre Kunsthalle in Berlin. What are the motivations for Hungarian art collectors for purchasing photo-based works, and how are they placed in a broader contemporary, partly international art context? Both lectures are accompanied by a selection of photographs from private collections: the first presents examples through the personal experiences of a professional career, while the second examines the process of collection in the context of canon formation in art.

The lecture will be followed by a Q&A and comment session and concluded with the committee’s evaluation.
